Wide range refractive index sensor using a birefringent optical fiber

In this article, an efficient high birefringent D-shaped photonic crystal fiber (HB-D-PCF) plasmonic refractive index sensor is reported. It able to work over a long low analyte range from 1.29 1.36. This modified simple structured hexagonal PCF has birefringence in the near-infrared region. A thin gold film protected by titanium dioxide (TiO2) layer deposited on D-surface of which acts as surface plasmon active layer. The consists channel top fiber. performance HB-D-PCF analyzed based finite element method. Both wavelength and amplitude interrogation techniques are applied study sensing optimized sensor. Numerical results show sensitivity 9245 nm/RIU 1312 RIU?1 respectively with resolution. Owing sensitivity, ability well spectral stability designed SPR potential candidate for water pollution control, glucose concentration testing, biochemical detection portable device fabrication.
